The Office of Alumni Engagement invites you to As Told By Edel Rodriguez. Artist Edel Rodriguez, BFA Painting ’94, will join Visiting Assistant Professor of Fine Arts Niama Safia Sandy for a conversation about his work and the impact he would like to have on others and see in society through art and design.

Edel Rodriguez, BFA Painting ’94
Edel Rodriguez is an award-winning, internationally exhibited Cuban-American artist. Inspired by personal history, religious rituals, politics, memory, and nostalgia, his bold, figurative works are an examination of identity, mortality, and cultural displacement.

Rodriguez graduated with honors in painting from Pratt Institute in 1994 and received a MFA in painting from Manhattan’s Hunter College. Throughout his career, Rodriguez has created over a hundred newspaper and magazine covers for clients such as TIME Magazine, Der Spiegel, Newsweek, The Nation, Businessweek, The New Republic, and The Village Voice in addition to dozens of book covers for clients such as Simon & Schuster and Penguin Random House. His artwork is in the collections of a variety of institutions, including the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., as well as in numerous private collections. His work has received numerous awards from The Art Director’s Club and The Society of Illustrators in New York City. He is also the recipient of a 2019 Pratt Alumni Achievement Award.
